A hopeful Heath

Sinking softly into the sand
I walk here holding natures hand

The last of dragonfly on the wing
And woodland birds they softly sing

Copper beech and broad leaf oak No longer wearing natures cloak

Bare they stand by a dried up pond
The sign of a drought summer been and gone

Rowan berries shining in the sun
Their fruit a flavour of things to come

And though bracken and bramble are dry and brown
Under the spent leaves, a joy abounds

It’s fungi time in the woodlands floor
Autumns treat, toadstools galore

Look closely, stop and sit awhile
And find your joyous autumn smile
