Great Bustards

When there’s something good

In the neighbourhood

Who you going to see

Great Bustards!

We went on another Bustard hunt

And saw plenty of plastic bags

And too many stones and lots of rocks

And plenty of wind beaten flags

Meanwhile Vicci was still in the back

Binoculars trained on the ground

While 4 types of lark

Came and they went making a glorious sound

Too far away the visitors cried

Whats great if you can’t see them at all

But they all kept looking and looking

In the hope of a seeing one up tall

All of us too meek to shout out

Did you misunderstand what we said

We don’t want to go on a bustard hunt

We like our birds close up instead

Bustards what bustards

One of them cried

When all of a sudden

Look what they spied

A whole flock of

What was it they saw

Goldfinch, corn bunting

And larks galore

And suddenly Dave screeched the car to a halt

And there in the blink of an eye

Were 9 languishing glorious bustards

Strutting there tails under the sky

Time for a beer the visitors cried

Hurrah for the great bustard bird

A grand splendid strutting phenomenon

Worth the wait we concurred
