Halloween

A black witch came to visit

The night of Halloween

She danced and flew around us

Bewitch-ed and between

We opened the front and back doors

And tried to coax her out

We fluttered both our tea towels

And turned off all the lights

How else could we catch her?

What else could we try?

“No no leave her there”

The gallant men all cry

So we left her in the kitchen

Forgot her, went to bed

But woke up in the morning

With a worrying sense of dread

The moth had gone, the cat looked strange

And there was a broomstick in the hall

And all of a sudden the old tabby cat

Flew to the top of the wall

You shouldn’t have eaten that moth, I cried

It was a black witch owlet

But the cat just smiled and then she whispered

Halloween isn’t over yet

And there on the kitchen table

Laid out in the shimmering gloom

She had made us all a potion fudge

I think I’ll try mine soon!
