I took her for a walk today
‘Twas-5° they say
I introduced her to the ice
She walked around it once or twice
And pawed at it cautiously
Wondered at the consistency
Looked at it incredulously
Stepped upon it silently
I marvel that it took her weight
And then it seems she tried to skate
She found a piece of thinner ice
Stepped upon it once or twice
It was water as a pond should be
Baffled she looked up at me
She lept up on to dry land
And couldn’t quite understand
I must take her to the ice again
She will enjoy it much more then
